Jaume Morera Art Gallery
The Jaume Morera Art Gallery is a key venue in the artistic and cultural life of the city of Lleida. A visit around its collection represents a journey through the art of the 20th century. It has everything from realist landscapes of the late 19th century to the most pioneering concepts of contemporary art, along with the avant-garde of the 1930s, in particular the works of Leandre Cristòfol, and experimental creations from the 60s up the 90s.
The Jaume Morera Art Gallery was founded in 1914 through donations made by the painter Jaume Morera i Galícia, a series of exhibits from the Prado Museum and works by Lleida Provincial Authority beneficiaries. It was established in 1917, and since 1993 has been owned by the city council. Over the years the museum has been housed in a number of different venues, reflecting the events occurring over its long history: the now defunct Sant Lluís Market, the former Hospital of Santa Maria and the Roser Convent.
Its current home is the historic former Casino (Avinguda Blondel, 40-42 and Carrer Major, 31).
Temporary exhibition gallery
Temporary exhibitions, either staged by the institution itself or as co-productions with other galleries, as well as the hosting of exhibitions of interest on nationwide tours, represent one of the key aspects of the Jaume Morera Art Gallery's operations, in terms of both dissemination and research.
Exhibitions addressing the historical reconsideration of the key artistic trends of the 20th century, as well as retrospectives of famous artists, above all those with ties to the city of Lleida, are the cornerstones of the gallery's exhibition programme.
